Jane Fonda Spoofs Nicole Kidman’s Beloved AMC Theatres Ad With Warner Bros. Twist: “Somehow Mergers Feel Good in a Place Like This”
Jane Fonda put her own spin on Nicole Kidman’s iconic AMC Theatres ad, celebrating the moviegoing experience with a corporate twist. In a parody video, the two-time Oscar winner mimicked Kidman’s monologue, praising the streaming service's ability to silence dissent and censor content, chosen by the best billionaires. She continued, "Somehow corporate greed feels good in a place like this. Somehow mergers feel good in a place like this."
The video took a turn when a man entered the theater and kicked Fonda out, warning her that the place would be demolished in five minutes. This spoof comes on the heels of Fonda's recent criticism of Netflix's $82.7 billion deal to acquire Warner Bros., calling it a "catastrophic business deal" and a "constitutional crisis."
Fonda's statement, issued jointly with the Committee for the First Amendment, urged the Department of Justice to refrain from using power to extract political concessions that influence content decisions or chill free speech. The parody video highlights the tension between corporate interests and the democratic values of the entertainment industry, inviting viewers to ponder the implications of such mergers and acquisitions.
